Title:
Insights related to Older Chennai city and Tamil Language Evolution in Song numbered 1 in Thiruvarutpa.

Aim:
To conduct a critical Philocine style analysis on the song numbered 1, placed in Part 1 of First Thirumurai placed under the தெய்வ மணி மாலை section.

Analysis:
This song contains reference to the architecture of the 19th century Chennai city and mentions about using the term “கோட்டம்" for denoting temple.

Discussion:
In this song, Saint Vallalar (Born 1823 - Disappeared 1874) gives a description about the city of Chennai of the 19th century, that the city appeared very small with a limited land area and was not a very big city of the present day.

Moreover, the city of Chennai contained lots of trees, which were described to be grown to big heights . This can be further elaborated by geography researchers and the scholars studying about the history of Chennai.

Another interesting point to be noted in this song is the description given by Vallalar while naming the temples as “கோட்டம்”, this can further be elaborated by the  Linguistic researchers studying about the  evolution of Tamil language.

Conclusion:
By conducting a Philocine style research on song numbered 1 in chapter 1 in part 1 of Thiruvarutpa we could conclude that this song contains inputs related to 2 fields of science namely, Geography and linguistics.
